Ligh-tbulbs with 10 times the life of ordinary tungsten ones used to be available back in the 1960s. We used to buy them, they were twice the price as well, but still good value at that, except they also used twice as much electricity, so there was a hidden cost. It's the thinness of the filament that makes them efficient to run, but also breaks sooner that thicker long-lasting ones.
